  23.  akTIFF.datatype is a TIFF datatype, which is based on the
  24.  TIFF reference sources (libtiff 3.4beta037).
  25.  
  26.  So it does support 8 Bit color mapped files (colorspace expanded to
  27.  8 bit per component always) and True color files (24 Bit, alpha
  28.  channel ignored, cut down to 24 Bit 8:8:8 if necessary).

  30.  Note, that reading of LZW compressed TIFF graphics is disabled because
  31.  of legal reasons. Zip and JPEG compression intentionally is not supported,
  32.  because they are seldomly used and support would bloaten the binaries
  33.  a lot - subject to further considerations, though.

  49.  Where upto 256 colors always will be exported unmodified,
  50.  and 24 Bit data either is dithered or converted to HAM6/HAM8,
  51.  if it can't be or should not be exported unmodified.
